Ram girls win, boys place third at Hawk Relays

The Greene County girls track and field team won the Hawk Relays hosted by Woodward-Granger on April 24. Seven first place finishes set the pace for the Rams to grab their first win of the track and field season.

The Rams took first and second place in the girls 200m dash. Senior Megan Durbin was first in 26.76 seconds, and freshman Brianna Osterson was second in 28.30.

Sophomore Izzy Bravard won the 100m hurdles with a time of 18.41 seconds. The 4 X 100m relay team of junior Melanie Doran, Osterson, freshman Lillian Muir and Durbin won with a time of 53.84. The distance medley relay of Doran, Durbin, Osterson and freshman Makala Kafer placed first, posting a time of 4:44.6. Doran, senior Sydney Schiltz, Bravard and Muir teamed up to win the 4 X 100m shuttle hurdle relay in 1:16.69.

State champion high jumper Durbin won that event, clearing the bar at 5’6”. Freshman Brooklyn Olson got her first win in the discus throw, hurling the disc 98’ 11”.
Second place finishes came from Doran in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:15.28; the 4 X 200m relay composed of sophomores Megan Doran, Tieryn Tucker, Paige Heaning and Sophia Ausberger.

In third place were the 800m sprint medley team of Tucker, Heaning, Kafer and Muir I 2:06.76; Osterson in the long jump at 14’ 6”; senior Haley Hall in the 3000m run with a time of 13:32.41; and Olson in the shot put with a throw of 34’ 3-3/4”. Senior Emily Finch finished fourth in the 1500m run with a time of 5:51.56; Schiltz in the 100m hurdles in 18.97; senior Onica Delp n the shot put at 32’ 1-1/2”.

Team scores were Greene County 137, Ogden 130.5, Woodward-Granger 114, West Central Valley 91, Glidden-Ralston 81.5, Woodward Academy 13, and Woodward Academy JV 4.

The Rams placed third in boys competition. Sophomore Colby Kafer won the 200m dash in 23.87 seconds. Sophomore Carter Morton won the 110m hurdles in 16:05, and the 4 X 100m relay team of Morton, junior Lance Hughes, sophomore Tyler Teeples and Kafer won with a time of 46.19. In field events, Morton won the high jump at 6’ 2” and junior Bryce Hoyle won the discus throw at 123’ 10”.

Placing second were the 4 X 200m relay of juniors Clint Dennhardt and Hughes, and sophomores Zavier Hayes and Nick Breon with a time of 1:40.85; the 4 X 400m relay of Morton, sophomore Brent Riley, Teeples and Kafer with a time of 3:51.5

Freshman Luis Velazco placed third in the 1600m run in 5:22.47. A team of Velazco, freshman Nathan Wailes and sophomores Brian Hardaway and Trevor Lebeck finished fourth in the 4 X 800m relay with a time of 10:01.94. Dennhardt, Hayes, Riley and Hughes placed fourth in the 800m sprint medley with a time of 1:47.35. Hoyle placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 39’ 7-1/2”.

The Paton-Churdan relay team of freshman Brus, sophomore Jon Thede, freshman Forest Thompson and junior Eric Thompson placed second in the 4 X 800m relay. Brus placed fourth in the 1600m run with a time of 5:20.6.

Team scores in boys competition were Woodward-Granger149, Ogden 123, Greene County 116, West Central Valley114, Glidden-Ralston 41, Paton-Churdan 17, Grand View Christian (Des Moines) 16,and W-G JV 8.
